ATYFC White vs Overton FC White – Spring Cup

Andover Town Youth FC played hosts to Overton FC White in the first round of the Spring Cup. The game started in very blustery conditions, which favoured Overton in the first half. Andover new Overton were a good side and needed to contain them which they did extremely well. Although the wind made it difficult for Andover to clear their half, the back 4 of James Cooper in goal, Finlay Robinson, Daniel Baulsom and Owen Potter in defence showed Overton they weren’t going to get an easy game with some strong tackles, great saves and good organisation, made it almost impossible for Overton to get a goal. The midfield of George Lewin, Salem Barahmeh, Charlie Holloway and Harry Lunn protected their defence well as Overton piled on the pressure but Andover also had their chances with good runs from Harry and Charlie down both wings and from George and Salem both looking to take the ball past players and find Joe Burnip, Charlie or Harry making a run into the Overton box. Jack Sharpe and George Barkley also played in midfield and just like George and Salem looked to take the game to Overton. Jack showed good composure on the ball and skill to skip past defenders. George Barkley showed his tenacious side, looking to run with the ball through the heart of the Overton defence and create a chance on goal. Joe (although carrying an injury) looked dangerous up front and showed great skill, composure and accuracy to run onto a great ball from Owen and coolie put the ball past the Overton keeper.

Unfortunately this cup run wasn’t to go quite as well as the previous one which saw Andover reach the semi-finals. Overton scored 2 goals in the first have and another 2 in the second making the final score 4-1 to Overton.

MOTM: James Cooper for an outstanding performance in goal, producing superb saves and distributing the ball brilliantly.
