The Andover Youth summer tournament may have started on the Saturday, but for the Andover teams themselves, the real tournament was on the Sunday.

With teams in all age groups (7s-10s) and over 40 teams registered the day started for the under 7s on Pitch 1 with a game for the Reds against Down Grange. Always a close encounter this one was no different. With the grange going 2-0 up in the first half with Andovers defence thinking they were still tucked up in bed, it took an inspired performance in the second half from Henry and Freddie to bring Andover back into the game. With Lucas unable to get into the game and Ollie and Findley tied up at the back it took 2 quick goals from Freddie to draw the teams level, and Andover looked to be pushing for a winner when the final whistle went.

Andover Youth Blacks had to wait until game three on pitch 2 to start their tournament. The day looked like it was going to go well for the youngsters as 2 goals for Liam and Maxwell against a decent looking Shipton side put Andover on the front foot. With Murry making his debut from the side lines at half time helping the team hold onto the lead until the end.

With Andover Youth Black then having to wait over an hour for their next match on Pitch 2, all the action was happening on Pitch 1. Another close encounter for game two saw Andover Reds narrowly beaten by Tadley although Lucas came close to scoring on three occasions, showing his supub dribbling skills to ghost past defenders only to be denied by some good goalkeeping by Tadley. The last two games went more to plan as Andover finally found their feet and Christian his confidence. With Henry running the show in midfield and Oliver proving to be a stone wall at the back, Freddie and Christian were free to show what they could do against the Brazilian Soccer school and Thatcham Tornadoes and soon taught them as lesson as the games finished 4-0 and 2-0 respectively with goals from Christian and Lucas meaning the day finished on a high note for the reds.

When Andover Youth Blacks finally kicked off they found themselves with back to back games and unfortunately back to back losses against Tidworth with even a classy performance from Maxwell unable to stop a defeat against BSS. Andover were unlucky to lose both games with Liam coming closes to scoring against Tidworth only to be denied by an excellent save from the keeper. Jimmy did try to rescue a point with a goal late on but Andover came out 3-1 losers on the day.
The last game against Thatcham was a great game to watch. Maxwell proving that he could defend just as well as attack but even a solid performance from Matthew and Harry could not stop Thatcham going 3-0 up with only a couple of minutes to go, even though James, after saying he was rubbish in goal, pulled out two outstanding saves. Jimmy then found his pace and broke from his own penalty area to sprint though and score twice to make the last minute very tense indeed. Again Andover found themselves on the attack and nearly through on goal just as the final whistle went.

An exhibition match then followed on Pitch 2 against Wooton hill, with tired legs carrying Andover over the finish line with a deflected goal from Maxwell followed by an excellent free kick from Liam proving to be too much for the visitors to handle with the final score ending 2-0.

Overall it proved to be a really good day had by all, with both teams winning two games and goals coming from all sources. The key thing was that the boys all enjoyed themselves and are already looking forward to Shipton in three weeks time.
