October’s Social News
Here is the monthly Andover Town Youth FC social update email following our Committee meeting that took place at the end of September.
Andover Carnival 2015
As most of you will already know, Andover Town Youth FC has entered a float into each of the last two Andover Carnivals. Our Club has grown significantly in the last 12 months or so and it is a commonly held belief among the Committee’s members that our participation in these Carnivals has been a major contributing factor to this recent growth. As such, we are keen to take part in the Carnival again in 2015. Therefore, we are looking for some volunteers to help us organise our entry into next year’s event. Essentially, we would like to set-up a Carnival sub-committee that can provide a progress update to each of our monthly meetings. That sounds quite formal, but it doesn’t need to be. We are just looking to get a group of people together who can come up with and discuss ideas on how best to decorate our Carnival float, source and obtain the necessary equipment and make the necessary arrangments for the big day. We aren’t particularly bothered about winning any prizes, although they would be a lovely bonus! From what we have seen at the last two Carnivals, there are groups out there who must spend months preparing their Carnival floats and who probably spend an awful lot of money in the process. We are not looking to compete with them. We just want to create a float that reflects what Andover Town Youth FC is all about – being well-presented, enthusiastic and family friendly. So, if you are particularly creative, have good organisational skills or have past experience of preparing a Carnival float, we would love to hear from you. I know it’s a long way off (July 2015) but if you would like to get involved, please forward me your details. It goes without saying that any help we can get from our players’ parents/guardians will be greatly appreciated. Please have a look at the attached photo to see our float at this year’s Carnival.
Christmas Function: Saturday 29th November 2014
In last month’s email I asked you all to make a note of the date of our Christmas Function taking place at Picket Piece Village Hall later this year – November 29th. Following our latest Committee meeting, I am now able to give some details of how the day will run. Here are the timings:
2:30pm: Doors open
3:00pm: Professor Potty
6:00pm: Doors open
7:00pm: DJ set begins – disco ’til dawn!
The afternoon session is only open to our Under 6 to Under 9 age groups and the cost of entry is £5 per player All players attending the afternoon session will receive a Christmas gift. Professor Potty has performed at our last two Christmas Functions and has gone down a storm on both occasions. In case anyone is concerned by the fact that their kids may have seen Professor Potty before, he has told us that this time around he is going to do something “a little bit different”.
The evening session is open to our Under 10 to Under 12 age groups, as well as parents, guardians, etc., and the cost of entry is £2.50 per person. There won’t be any food served on the night (other than crisps, peanuts, etc. from the bar), so families are encouraged to bring along their own plates of party food. We will also hold a raffle on the night, so it would be great if we could get some raffle prizes from the families of our players, such as bottles of wine, boxes of chocolates, Christmas-relates items, etc. For those of you who are kind enough to contribute a raffle prize, they should ideally be handed in to the coaches a week or so before event takes place. However, they can be brought along on the night, if necessary.
Please try to come along to at least one session of our Christmas Function and help us make it into a really special day for all involved.
Club Mascot Competiton
Following our recent change in identity from Andover Youth FC to Andover Town Youth FC, it has been decided that we need a new Club mascot. This will replace our existing mascot – Leo the Lion. We thought it would be a good idea to make this into a fun competition for our players by giving them the opportunity to design our new mascot! All they need to do is draw a picture of their idea on a piece of A4 paper and then send it to our Chairman, Simon Timms, at the following address:
18 Vetch Way
The closing date for entries into this competition is October 31st. Any entries received will be looked at and discussed at the next Social Committee on November 3rd and we will decide which idea is the best. The prize for the person who submits the winning entry is that their mascot idea will become a reality! When sending in your entries, please make sure you write your kid’s name, age group and coach’s name on the paper as well as a contact number. The winner’s name, and the winning idea, will be revealed in next month’s email.
If anybody has any questions or queries regarding any of the above, please feel free to drop me a line.
