We are contacting you with regards to our annual small-sided football tournament which was due to be held on the 27th/28th June at the Picket Twenty Recreation Ground, Andover SP11 6LR. We have been monitoring the ongoing situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic in the hope that there would be clarification concerning the lockdown restrictions and mass gatherings. The latest communication from the government on the 10th May does not provide any guidance on such events and we have therefore been forced to make the difficult decision to cancel our tournament for this year.
We would like to thank you for supporting Andover Town Youth FC through your registration for our annual small-sided football tournament and to let you know that full refunds will be actioned via PayPal by the end of this week.
We hope that 2021 will enable us all to return to football as we know it and that you will consider registering for our tournament.
Andover Town Youth FC
Andover Town Youth Football Club will be holding their 22nd annual small-sided summer tournament and the ‘Festival of Fun’ on the weekend of 27th and 28th June 2020, from 9 am. on both days. The venue this year will be at Picket Twenty Recreation Ground, Andover SP11 6LR, where we expect to be hosting over 100 teams, comprising around 1000 players in 10 different age groups for boys and girls, along with their families, friends and supporters. We also hope to encourage along many more – supporters of local grass roots football, fans of the game in general, and perhaps some of those still to be converted to the cause – with other attractions to complement the matches themselves.
After the enormous success of holding a Cup and Plate competition for the first time last season we are please to announce that we will continue to hold a Cup and Plate competition this year! This means there is plenty for every team to play for. After the group stages have been contested the top two teams of each group will go into the Cup competition. The third and fourth placed teams will then go into the Plate competition. Both the Cup and Plate finals will be a straight knockout.
To accompany twelve hours of exciting and competitive football over the two days, we will have a bouncy castle for the youngsters, an official photographer, barbecue food, snacks, drinks and ice creams.
A team of dedicated volunteers has been planning and organising the event over the last nine months, and many individuals and local companies have generously provided support and sponsorship to enhance our smooth operation. This support enables us to channel more of the funds raised by the tournament and other events throughout the year, to the development and potential success of our young players in enjoying the best game in the world.
Our club currently has around 240 young players across a range of age groups, and we are always on the lookout for more young talent. But running this large operation does bring associated costs for training facilities, pitches, kit and equipment, so a well-supported tournament is vital in meeting such costs and keeping registration and match fees as low as possible, particularly in the present economic environment.
All will be welcome on either or both days of the tournament, whether connected with the footballers or not, to help make the 2020 edition our most successful tournament ever.
